ABOUT TASTE

This is what it sounds like when someone actually cares.

This is what it sounds like when someone actually cares.

Origin

Taste started with a simple frustration: there was nowhere that treated R&B as the serious, living, evolving genre it is.

Not a side column. Not a sub-genre tick box. Not a mood playlist buried three clicks deep on a site whose real love is somewhere else. R&B — with its history, its architecture, its lineage, its room full of Black genius — deserved a home built specifically for it.

So we built one. And yeah, we called it Taste. Because if you're here, you already have it.

Whate We Do

Taste covers R&B music. Full stop.

That means artist spotlights on emerging voices before the rest of the world catches up. Album reviews that actually say something and aren't afraid to say it. Commentary on the scenes, the sounds, and the shifts happening within the genre. Playlists built with intention. And a print magazine that documents R&B at specific moments in time — made to last, made to be collected.

We're not trying to be everything. We're trying to be the best place for this one thing.

Who It's For

Taste is built for the listener who goes past the first single. Who saves the deep cut. Who argues for the underrated album at full volume. Who knows that R&B has been the backbone of popular music for decades and doesn't need a mainstream cosign to validate that.

It's for the community of Black listeners, queer listeners, and everyone who has ever found themselves in an R&B song at 2am and been grateful it existed. The obsessives. The ones who stream an album fifty times and still notice something new. The ones whose playlists are basically a diary.

If that's you, you're already home.

UK And US

Our roots are UK, our reach is global. R&B doesn't have a postcode — and neither does Taste. We cover the music wherever it's being made, with particular attention to UK artists who aren't always given their flowers on this side of the conversation.
